Role of the EAL & Diversity Team

The EAL & Diversity Team works in partnership with schools to raise the attainment of pupils with English as an additional language. It carries out the following wide range of functions:
  • Liaison with families and encouragement of parental involvement
  • Language assessment and provision of reports
  • Support for EAL learners in the early stages of learning English
  • Advice regarding linguistic and cultural matters
  • Liaison with class teachers in developing language programmes within the curriculum
  • Advice on appropriate teaching and learning materials
  • Providing INSET to teachers and support staff to meet the language needs of bilingual pupils
  • Providing advice and support to teaching assistants
  • Liaison with other professionals as appropriate, for instance educational psychologists, health and social workers
  • Identifying EAL learners and monitoring progress
