Role of the EAL & Diversity Team
The EAL & Diversity Team works in partnership with schools to raise the attainment of pupils with English as an additional language. It carries out the following wide range of functions:
- Liaison with families and encouragement of parental involvement
- Language assessment and provision of reports
- Support for EAL learners in the early stages of learning English
- Advice regarding linguistic and cultural matters
- Liaison with class teachers in developing language programmes within the curriculum
- Advice on appropriate teaching and learning materials
- Providing INSET to teachers and support staff to meet the language needs of bilingual pupils
- Providing advice and support to teaching assistants
- Liaison with other professionals as appropriate, for instance educational psychologists, health and social workers
- Identifying EAL learners and monitoring progress
